There are numerous ways to facilitate strategic growth: acquisitions, mergers, key hires and one approach that has recently gained in popularity - Strategic Alliances.
Essentially, a strategic alliance is a business arrangement in which two or more firms cooperate for their mutual benefit. Its purpose may be to ease entry into a new market (especially if it's a foreign market - use of strategic alliances has become a major tool for businesses that are internationalizing their operations), or to gain a competitive advantage in an existing market. Or it may be designed to share knowledge, expertise, risk and/or expenses - whatever the purpose, it must result in mutual benefit to both parties.
Some strategic alliances take the form of a formal Joint Venture, while some alliances are less structured - in any event, they must be well-planned, properly structured and receive senior leadership's commitment to their success.
